THEIR STORY

Asefa Dukamo is one of the many dedicated and passionate farmers in the Bombe mountain valley of Ethiopia. They are part of a member organization consisting of 667 producers in various parts of the mountain range, which also includes farmers from Bombe and Shantawene. The last two years, these farmers chose to process their coffees through the Bombe Washing Station. Bombe is a world-renowned washing station, receiving awards for organic methods and sustainability. Asefa and his family have helped to improve the livelihoods of the many coffee growing families in the community for many years.

ON THE MAP

The Bombe mountain range in the Sidama region of Ethiopia is lush and adventurous. The elevations and climate produce lush coffees, featuring tropical fruit tones and delicate florals.

THE FARM AND WASHING STATION

Bombe coffees are dense with heavy concentrations the Mikicho variety. Mikicho is easily identified by its larger cherries with wavy leaves; the seeds appearing elongated and canoe-shaped. No doubt, this is a distant relative to the Gesha variety. Up until the 2017/2018 harvest, all coffees from Bombe, Keramo and Shantawene villages were processed together and sold under the name of Shantawene. Eventually, the washing station was moved to the Bombe site to focus on isolating and differentiating the varities. For the past couple seasons, all producers from Bombe, Keramo and Shantawene delivered cherries to the more centralized Bombe site Abore Washing Station. The coffees from this region are exquisite.
