HIS STORY

João and his partners at FAF are innovators. A few of their crazy ideas include measuring brix on the cherries before harvesting, picking at nighttime, building raised beds, drying in the shade and fermenting.

João keeps the team passionate and caffeinated. Coffee at Sitio Canaã is served by the liter, even if it is for one. As our dear friend Felipe at FAF Coffee tells us, 2008, they almost abandoned coffee in 2008 and now sell to some of the best roasters around the world. Now they are producing exemplary coffee and making a difference in their community.

ON THE MAP

The 10-hectare farm rests in the idyllic coffee growing region of Caconde, north of São Paulo, Brazil. At over 1,200 meters above sea level with a superb microclimate, João and the FAF team have great conditions for producing award-winning coffee.

THE FARM

With quality control spearheaded by their son and our dear friend, Felipe Croce, the attention to detail in terms of lot selection and separation is paralleled by few companies the world over. As their knowledge and skills of organic farming and proper processing techniques continues to grow, so does the network of other families that are working with FAF and adopting the same methods. For the FAF family, this concept of total quality is “found at the intersection of sensorial quality with holistic sustainable practices that ensures quality of life for all involved. Coffee quality comes first, and it is what gets you in the door. This must be followed up with more farms switching to organic or more sustainable alternatives.
