HIS STORY

Josue Morales is the founder of Los Volcanes Coffees, which focuses on relationships between Guatemalan and Brazilian farmers and coffee roasters who buy their coffee. While Josue works with thousands of farmers and hundreds of roasters every season, his production on his single farm, Nueva Esperanza, is guaranteed to Greenway every season through our longstanding relationship and commitment to purchase.

ON THE MAP

La Esperanza is located in the Antigua coffee region is located near the Southern coast of Guatemala.  Beans are grown in a valley surrounded by three volcanic mountains. The area is between 4,600 and 5,600 feet above sea level and has steady 66-71°F temperatures, a reliable weather pattern, heavy rainfall, and a constant high level of humidity. The elevation, nutrient-rich volcanic soil, and ideal weather conditions all combine to create a perfect environment for growing high-quality arabica coffee beans.

THE FARM

Nueva Esperanza is the physical farm on the same property as the wet mill and processing station Hacienda Nueva Esperanza. While the mill handles thousands of farms’ worth of coffee each season, Greenway has secured the tiny farm on the property’s coffee for years now. The farm is certified organic and practices biodynamic farming including a comprehensive composting system and wastewater reduction.
