THEIR STORY

Limmu Kossa was established in 2000 and has 356 hectares of coffee farms growing Ethiopian heirloom coffee varieties. At Limmu Kossa, coffee is grown under forest shade, which helps the beans develop slower, becoming very dense and flavorful. Cherries are processed with two on-site environmentally friendly wet mills and one eco-mill equipped for both wet and dry processing. The farm also has a honey production operation consisting of more than 107 modern beehives, and has various social programs to support its workers and nearby farming communities.

ON THE MAP

In the birthplace of coffee, the high elevations and ideal microclimate of Oromia, Ethiopia brings out a well-balanced coffee.

THE COOPERATIVE

Over the last few years, Limmu Kossa has distributed over 350,000 disease-resistant coffee seedlings to neighboring smallholders to ensure that their neighbors are able to plant and grow high-quality coffee. These seedlings are a mix of six different varietals from the Jimma Coffee Research Institute.
In addition to being a resource for neighboring farmers, Ghiday Behre (farm manager) also very involved with supporting the local school. He recently funded the expansion of the school, adding an additional classroom and paying the salary of an additional teacher. The cooperative is a driving force of social impact in the community.
