About
Food 4 Farmers

Most families in these communities live well under the Global Poverty Line of $1.90 per person, per day. Food 4 Farmers partners with coffee cooperatives and farming families to bolster local food systems and build better livelihoods. Coffee has the power to fuel food-secure communities, strong leadership, and economic opportunities for women, youth, and marginalized people. Food 4 Farmers works with coffee farmers to disrupt the global food system. We partner with farmers and their cooperatives to develop local leaders to build thriving food hubs, diversify and improve income, and move to sustainable farming practices that promote biodiversity and ecosystem resiliency throughout Latin America.

Most coffee farmers are predominantly dependent on a product that provides inadequate income, yet they lack the resources needed to invest in alternatives. Even though the cooperatives we work with produce Fair Trade, organic certified coffees, most have insufficient land to produce enough to achieve a dignified livelihood. Food 4 Farmers confronts seasonal hunger, so coffee-farming families can grow and thrive in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia and other important coffee-producing countries.

Food 4 Farmers was established to help fill the gap between the income provided by coffee, and what’s required for a decent quality of life. We see – and actively support - the potential for farmers and their families to lead the way to healthier, food-secure rural communities. We call it ‘TransFARMation.’
